Privacy
Laatst bijgewerkt: 2 november 2026.
Daarvoor is bijna niets over jou nodig.

Privacy
Last updated: 2 November 2026. Applies to pickd.watch and the Pickd app for Android.
Pickd helps you decide quickly what to watch. That needs almost nothing about you. No accounts, no ads, no tracking cookies, and we don’t sell or share anything with advertisers.
What stays in your own browser or app
Your settings (your services, language, filters), whether you have seen Pickd before, and the last title you tapped “Open in …” for (so we can later ask whether you watched it). This stays on your device; clear the site’s or app’s data to remove it.
What we keep on our server
| What | Why | How long |
|---|---|---|
| My list: titles you save, watched or don’t want to see, and whether you liked a watched title | So your list is still there next time, also on another device, and for picks that suit you | Until you remove the titles |
| Notifications (only if you turn them on): the address your browser or phone gives for notifications, your services and language | To tell you when something on your list arrives on or leaves your services | Until you turn them off |
| Swipe together: the chosen genres and services and who liked which title (no names) | To find matches | A room can’t be opened after 24 hours |
| “Not there?” reports: the title, the service and your list key (so one person doesn’t count twice) | To recheck availability overnight | About 30 days |
| Keeping your list by email (only if you choose to): an encrypted code of your email address, linked to your list key; we don’t keep the address itself | So you can get your list back on another device with your email address | Until you remove the link in Settings |
| Anonymous visit measurement: how long a visit takes until you tap “Open in …”, number of taps and swipes, phone or not, app or browser | To measure whether Pickd makes deciding faster | Single visits 90 days, then only daily totals |
| Searched titles: only the title, per day | To prepare better picks for those titles overnight | 60 days |
Your list belongs to a random key your device makes itself; no name, email address or phone number goes with it. If you choose to keep your list by email, we use your address only to send the email you ask for (a confirmation, or the link to your list); after that we only know its code, which finds your list when you enter the address again. Anyone with your personal link can open the list, so only share it with people you trust. The visit measurement uses no cookies and stores no IP address, key or device details.
Importing what you have seen
With “What have you already seen?” you can pick a file you download yourself from Netflix, Letterboxd or IMDb. Pickd reads the file in your browser and sends only the titles (with year and, for IMDb, the IMDb id) to the server to recognise them; the file itself and the dates are not sent and not kept. Recognised titles go on your list, as when you mark them as watched yourself. Titles we don’t know are looked up on The Movie Database (TMDB), the title only.
If you link your Letterboxd name, your browser keeps it and Pickd now and then reads your public Letterboxd diary (the latest films you logged there) to add new films to your list. Our server doesn't keep the name; you can unlink in the same place.
Other companies’ services
- Netlify (US) hosts the site and server. Like any web host, Netlify processes technical data such as your IP address to deliver the page, under Netlify’s own privacy policy.
- Posters and images are loaded by your device from The Movie Database (TMDB).
- Trailers come from YouTube (privacy-enhanced mode) and only load when you tap “Trailer”.
- Emails (only if you keep or restore your list by email) are sent for us by Resend (US); Resend gets your email address and the content of that one email.
- Notifications go through your browser’s or phone’s notification service (for example Google).
- A tap on “Open in …” opens that streaming service’s app or site; their privacy policy applies from there.
For film data, scores, availability and picks we also use other services (such as TMDB, OMDb and services for availability and links). They only receive title data, never anything about you.
Your rights
You may ask which data we hold about you, and have it corrected or deleted. You can empty your list yourself and turn notifications off yourself. As we don’t know who you are, a request needs your personal link. You can also complain to the Dutch Data Protection Authority (Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens).
Pickd is not meant for children under 16.
